About the Piece

"This volume reflects the trajectory of the Museo de Arte Moderno de Cartagena de Indias, from the first founding intention—which in 1959 coincided with the donation made to the city by the Organization of American States (OAS) of a singular collection of works by great Latin American painters of that time—to its current establishment as one of the most prestigious institutions of its kind in Colombia, not only because of its location in a privileged site within one of the most significant cities in the country, but also due to its extraordinary collection of painting and sculpture. The book includes a substantial journey, made possible by high-quality graphic material, through an exceptional compilation in which, in addition to numerous examples of international modern art from the second half of the 20th century, one finds perhaps the most representative sample of Cartagena’s visual arts, with works by great masters born in the city or who have lived there, as well as examples of numerous contemporary painters working in the “Corralito de piedra.” Through these pages, it is also possible to appreciate the trends that Colombian visual arts in general—and Caribbean art in particular—have followed, both nationally and internationally, over the past fifty years."
