Photography in Antioquia, an extraordinary testimony organized into three broad sections covering the regional panorama of this craft between 1848 and 2006, is the result of a thorough research conducted by Jaime Osorio Gómez around this visual legacy housed and protected by the Biblioteca Pública Piloto de Medellín, BPP.The selection of works, which includes more than sixty photographers, is complemented by interesting biographical notes about them. The collection allows us to delightfully explore the evolution of this craft in Antioquia and to verify the artistic spirit it has contained since the early years. Few media are as closely related to the testimonial function as photography. Since its invention in the mid-19th century, photography has always been the truthful and reliable witness of the actions of individuals and societies. In Colombia, Antioquia has been an exemplary model in terms of preserving its historical records. There, photographic archives have always been valued and preserved. The industries and the department have generously come to their rescue and conservation.
