With the suggestive title Botero, the invention of an aesthetic, the art critic and historian Santiago Londoño Vélez records several years of study, analysis, and observation, gathering information and interpretation about the evolutionary process of the work of the great Colombian artist. Or, as he himself describes it, about "the process of inventing an aesthetic by an Antioquian painter who emerged under frankly adverse economic and cultural conditions." It is not, therefore, a biography of Botero, although the author refers to details of his life when these are relevant for his interpretation. It is indeed an excellent and accurate reconstruction of an artistic process, where the documentary aspect takes priority. An important book about a great artist.
