In extraordinary and colorful images, this volume records the artistic evolution of Ana Mercedes Hoyos, the Colombian painter who holds a privileged place in contemporary Latin American art. After the initial windows, which reveal the Bogotá landscape and allow association, like Ángel Kalenberg, with Flemish painting and surrealist play, the artist's trajectory shifts towards the evocative stage of her atmospheres. White, luminous, and textured canvases that will exhaust the search, closing their own circle and giving rise to a new starting point: the recovery of the object and the approach to nature.In this perspective appear the exuberant sunflowers, treated with boldness and sensuality, and, in more recent years, her peculiar reinterpretation of the still life and dead natures, based on the colorful platters of fresh fruit that the black vendors of San Basilio de Palenque offer to tourists on the beaches of Cartagena. Also recorded is her delightful pictorial foray into the interesting culture of this community, whose characters and customs take over Ana Mercedes Hoyos's canvases in a siege that she assumes both intellectually and emotionally. As this retrospective vision shows, Ana Mercedes Hoyos's painting reflects in each stage the passion for the craft and the reflection on her time and society.
