The crew renamed the trophy in honor of their boat, declaring it a ‘perpetual challenge cup’ . There have been 37 editions of the Cup since that inaugural upset, with the New York Yacht Club holding it for 132 years—the longest winning streak in sporting history . Today, Australia, New Zealand, and even landlocked Switzerland have claimed the ‘Auld Mug,’ proving that no champion is ever safe.
